The leadership of the Antois family over the years had been steady, seeking neutrality after the war of independence. Pierre Antois III, also known as King Ant, was able to change the fate of the people of Raskaria forever. In modern times, his reign is viewed with much controversy, mainly about weather his often bloody conquests were justified in the name of progress.
Background - The Young Kingdom
After winning the hard-fought war of independence against the other French and Germanic Kingdoms, the Kingdom of Raskaria found itself in the middle of a tumultuous continent. The Land of the Nile to the south was broken apart into various warring states, Nordic Jarldoms continued to raid anyone in sailing distance, bordering kingdoms fought wars regularly, and far to the east lie an untamed wilderness. Pierre Antois the First, and Antois the Second both sought to fortify the nation, and ensure neutrality from any politics and bloodshed. At this time many of the great stone fortresses and walls that still stand today were build at every major city.
Pierre Antois III (1005 - 1459 CE)
Early Life
Born into the Antois family, Pierre Antois II was taught from a very young age the importance of magic to secure the nation. After his father passed in 1020 CE, the 15 year-old Antois III was enveloped in grief for months afterwards. Many accounts from the time say that they had never seen anyone so overcome with sadness as the young prince. This event during adolescence spurred Antois III to use some of the most powerful magic in his kingdom to greatly lengthen his life beyond human standards. Although not admitedly at the time, this was done out of fear: A fear of death that haunted him since his father's passing.
(Something about the dwarves also becoming a newer kingdom and wanting to be neutral also made them ally pretty early)
